Abstract
Glycine jal'anic{I is one of the few productive legumes which can be found abundantly m open grasslands and near roadsides on the slopes of Mts. Meru and Kilimanjaro. It may be found trailing on tall grasses, such as Panicum maximum and Setaria sphacelata, cr spreading vigorously in Rhodes grass and Star grass pastures. Because of its ability to produce palatable and nutritious green forage throughout the dry season, when most other pasture plants are desiccated, it is a highly valued fodder plant. In the dry season Wachagga women collect bundles of Glycine in the plains and carry them for great distances up to their coffee holdings and cattle stalls. on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
