Abstract
Farms were selected in two agro-ecologically-contrasting districts faced with declining soil fertility, Kiambu and Mbeere Kiambu and Mbeere districts represent high and low-medium agricultural potential areas respectively. A further pre-condition for the selection of the districts was that they must have had experiences with farmer field schools. Within the two selected districts, two administrative divisions with representative district farming systems were selected for the study.
