Abstract
An investigational programme was undertaken in Kenya to determine the potential for reducing the application rates of methyl bromide used to fumigate bag-stacked cereals, including wheat, maize and millet. The investigation was made in collaboration with the Kenya Agriculture Research Institute (KARl), and the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), in whose stores all experimental fumigations were carried out. Fumigations were performed in two areas of differing climatic conditions, Nairobi (cool) and Mombasa (hot), in order to compare the potential for a reduction in fumigant application under each condition.
