Abstract
Existing cover may protect introduced legume seedlings and prevent losses if dry periods follow germination, but if existing cover is left tall, it smothers small-seeded legumes such as white clover (Suckling 1965. Gullen. 1966). Large-seeded legumes such as subterranean clover however. are known to have established equally well in both tall and short pasture (Suckling, 1965).
