Abstract
Availability of quality seed and clean planting material has often been sited as a major constr.aint to crop production in Eastem Kenya, more so for the unscheduled and some of. th~ scheduled crops. For these crops most of which are self pollinated, vegetatively propagated or open pollinated varieties (OPVs) farmers save their own seed from season to season, occasionally getting new varieties from organised seed distribution channels primarily to experiment with and multiply up t~emselves.
