Abstract
The objectives of the survey were: (1) To carry out soil survey of the new and old schemes and determine the types and extent of different soils. (2) To study the salinity and sodicity problems in the new and old schemes and establish their causes, levels and extent. (3) To assess the fertility status of the soils and give the appropriate fertilizer recommendations where necessary. (4) To determine the soil physical properties in the new area for the establishment of the appropriate water management regimes. (5) To assess the suitability of soils for field crops, vegetables, fruits and high value oil crops. (6) To assess the nutrient levels in the plant tissues.
