Abstract
Spider mites are widely distributed in the major cassava growing regions of the world; but are never economic pests. A number of species are recorded on cassava (Nyiira. 1975) out of which green mites (Mononychellustana;oa. Bonder) are recently introduced in Africa. A first major outbreak of this pest was recorded in Uganda (Nyiira. 1972). It was first observed in Tanzania in 1973 and believed to be introduced through cassava cuttings from Uganda. The mites are now well established in Mwanza, Geita, Bukoba, Nzega and Musoma regions.
