Abstract
Maize varieties from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Israel were tested in western Tanzania during the seasons 1963/64, 1964/65 and 1965/66. The Kenya varieties, notably Hybrid 622, showed a yield advantage over the local Katumbili variety which increased when conditions were favourable. Hybrid 622 has been grown in large observation plots by farmers and has been well received.
