Abstract
The paper presents the distribution of smallholder farmers among different yield groups, coffee production costs and profitability. The results indicated that farmers can still break even and even make some positive gross margins (profit) out of the enterprise depending on yield achieved. The gross margins were positive for all smallholders able to produce 800 kg of clean coffee per hactare. The future outlook of the coffee enterprise is also forecasted to be good and farmers can anticipate greater profit margins. The results are therefore intended to encourage farmers to intensify their coffee production now and in the foreseeable future.
