Abstract
The vast amount of literature on the subject of soil phosphates testifies not only to the importance of phosphates in agriculture but also to the difficulties that have been encountered in interpreting their behaviour in soils. This is understandable when one considers the number of forms in which soil phosphates occur and the number of factors that affect their solubility. The volume of literature on this subject appears to be increasing annually, possibly because more recent investigations have done much to clarify the problem and have therefore acted as a stimulus to those engaged in this particular branch of soil science.
