Abstract
The Mbeya experiment was seen at first as an opportunity to demonstrate the beneficial effects of conservation forestry on the steep Slopes of the Mbeya Range, in southern Tanzania, compared with traditional intensive smallholder cultivation. It was anticipated that The local cultivation practices, which did not include effective soil conservation measures, would lead to accelerated soil erosion and Accompanying undesirable changes in the flow regime such as a reduction in dry season flow and an increase in peak flows.
