Abstract
Gender is increasingly becoming an important variable in development. In particular gender plays a key role in agricultural development where access to and control of resources such as land, labor and farm inputs determines the level of women and men's participation. Kenya Agricultural Research: Institute (KARl) recognizes the importance, of gender relations in agricultural research and extension. Since 1994 KARl has been involved in a process of mainstreaming gender in research and extension. Tills was done first by creating a Gender Task Force whose major task would be to advice and coordinate activities that would lead to gender mainstreaming within KARl.
