Abstract
The 300-580 Mm. S,Easonal Rainfall Of The Central Sandy Rain lands Of the Sudan Is Not Sufficient For Vegetables. Local Production Is Limited to A Few Small Irrigated Gardens Around Permanent Water Holes But Is Insufficient For The Market Needs of the Region (Doxiadis, 1965). Transporting Vegetables from the Nile irrigated Schemes to the Widely Scattered Villages Makes Prices Too High For the Local Farmers. Hence, Any Method Enabling the Conservation Of Soil Moisture Sufficient For Vegetable Growth Dependent Solely On Natural Rainfall Would Contribute To the Improvement Of The Low Vitamin Diet of the Local Farmers.
