Abstract
Cashew (Anarcadium occidantale) is a major cash crop in the coastal region of Kenya. In Participatory Rural Appraisals on the farming systems of Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu districts carried out in 1994, the farmers stated that the major problem in cashewnut production is decl ining yields experienced in the last five years. In May and June, 1995, a study was carried out in the main cashew growing areas of Kilifi and Kwale districts using Participartory Rural Appraisal techniques to describe current cashew management practices, identify production and marketing constraints and possible areas of intervention by researchers, extensionists and other stake holders in cashewnut industry.
