Abstract
The banana is the most important food crop throughout the wetter parts of Uganda. In some places it covers the whole countryside; parts of the western slopes of Mount Elgon are clothed with a pale green mantle of banana gardens and only small patches of land, usually on rocky knolls and in the bottom of the river valleY3, are unplanted with the crop.
