Abstract
During 1937-8 a field investigation was made of the root-system of Agave sisalana in relation to some of the soil types on which it is grown in East Africa. Published references to the root-system of sisal are in the main confined to a few generalizations. The general view has been that the root system is shallow and of small lateral extent, and that the plant grows well on a great variety of soils mainly of an alkaline nature.
