Abstract
The suggestion that the fishery in Lake Victoria would benefit if the Nile perch (Lates niloticus) were introduced into the lake is shown to be based on ignorance of several fundamental biological concepts. Both theoretical reasoning and practical experience strongly suggest that such an introduction is not only undesirable but would jeopardize the existing commercial fishery.
