Abstract
Comparisons of daily total solar radiation measured by two Megatron photometers and a Kipp solarimeter for bimonthly periods over 32 months, havelShown a very close relationship between the records from the two types of instrument over anyone period. Under equatorial conditions however, the photocells exhibit a slow decline in sensitivity and, in addition, their response is somewhat temperature-dependent and thus varies with season. Nevertheless, such robust photocell devices, which can be cheaply integrated, can provide accurate field measurements if occasionally recalibrated.
