Abstract
Three major groups of erosion maps are described. The first group shows present erosion features and may indicate ongoing erosion processes. The second group indicates past erosion und the third group Identifies erosion hazards or specific hazard factors (the effect of relatively invariable factors, such as climate and relief, is called erosion susceptibility). Both past and present erosion data contribute to erosion hazard surveys which are necessary for conservation planning. Additional considerations include various land uses and agricultural practices which may considerably reduce erosion. The relationships between the various types of maps are discussed, including their application in conservation planning for various land uses.
