Abstract
The National Agricultural Centre Muguga is the largest of all research centres under the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute. The Centre is situated in Kiambu District, Central Province, about 27 km west of Nairobi. It has a mean annual (bimodal) rainfall of about 995 mm. The Long Rains start in mid-March, peak in May and end in June while the Short Rains start in October, peak in November and end in December. Annual maximum and minimum temperatures average 20.9°C and 10.8°C, respectively. The Centre falls under agroclimatic zone III.
