Abstract
The market for mbuni is completely dead at the moment, due to very large stocks both up-country and at the coast. No mbuni has been shipped from Mombasa since May. Another depressing factor is that many buyers have contracted with planters at prices far above present values and are naturally hoping that they will be able to offset these purchases against low-priced purchases now; this is why buyers are uninterested except at very poor prices. They know hat supplies of mbuni from estates are likely to be very large this year, which further encourages the hope of offsetting these early high-priced purchases.
