Abstract
Although coffee is an economically important crop in about 70 different countries at the present time, very little has been published about the physiology of the seed. Summaries of available information are to be found in COSTE (1955), COMMONWEALTH AGRICULTURAL BUREAUX (1955), WELLMAN (1961), HUXLEY (1962) and HAARER (1962). The problems associated with the physiology of coffee seed can be related to two main fields: the influence of various environmental and internal factors on the progress of germination, and factors which affect the viability of the seed.
