Abstract
Until recently the way in which butterflies orientated during migration was completely unknown. The dilemma in which students of butterfly migration found themselves was well summarised by Williams (1958). In this book, Williams discounted every facet of the environment known to man that could possibly serve as the means by which orientation could be achieved.
