Abstract
The Moi University farm consists of one extensive floodplain which is semi surrounded by the lower Uasin Gishu plateau. The farm is approximately 165ha. out of which only 40ha. have a fair drainage and can be farmed without major improvements. The water from this plateau collect in the floodplain after rains and due to the flatness of the floodplain, it is removed either too slowly or is flooded. This factor combined with the presence of heavy textures in the sub soil, has led to poor internal drainage which makes the farm uncultivatable for most parts of the year.
