Abstract
Salinity usually causes retarded growth of plants with concomitant decrease in economic yield. Okra (A belmoschus esculentus L.) is a very common vegetable crop extensively cultivated in Northem Lndia. Its cultivation on saline soils is really a problem, as it is supposed to 'be a very sensitive crop to salinity (Morgan, 1966; Maas and Hoffman, 1977). Bernstein (1974) has reported a considerable reduction in yield with increasing salinity in various vegetable crops. Therefore, the present experiment was designed to study the effects of salinity on the growth, yield, sugar and calorific values in Okra.
