Abstract
These descriptions are limited to high potential areas since these areas are where the highest potential for fodder production exists and where returns to improved species could be expected to be relatively high and establishment relatively safe. High potential areas are defined here as those areas receiving greater than 800 mm. rainfall per annum. The systems described are als. limited to smallholder farms. Smallholder high potential land c)vers over 6 million hectares including Settlement Schemes freehold registered land, and land available for registration. The area of high potential large scale farms is under l million hectares and is likely to decrease in the future, as further subdivision takes place
