Abstract
Utilization of inorganic phosphorus (P) fertilizer by the crop in the year of application is generally less than 25% (Wager et al., 1986). Ballard (1980) compiled from various author gross annual uptake values of coniferous species they ranged from 1.7 kg P ha (29-year-old Pinus banksiana) to 13.8 kg P ba-I yr-I (4-8-year-old Pinus radi3ta). The effectiveness of the remainder of the fertilizer as a Source of P for plants may be reduced through reaction with various soil components, immobilization Into microbial material and leaching from the roots zone
