Abstract
The intensification of our poultry industry, complicated by poor housing, has increased the incidence of respiratory diseases. It is very difficult to arrive at a diagnosis of these respiratory diseases in adult birds, but usually a tentative diagnosis can be made on the history, symptomatically and post-mortem lesions seen in affected birds. The field veterinarians and chicken breeders have a very important role in diagnosis and control of these diseases. A definite diagnosis is made by means of virus or bacterial isolation, or serological test. To do these tests correct specimens must be collected. A description of each disease as it occurs is given as a guide to poultry farmers, veterinarians and veterinary students.
