Abstract
The maize plant can intercept light showers of rain and concentrate water in considerable amounts near the base of its stem in a region of soil where roots may be found in quantity. Thus light showers which are normally neglected when discussing the rainfall regime of the plant in a dry season may play an important role in plant survival.
