Abstract
Maize production in the mid-altitude areas is limited due to maize diseases. Yield losses due to maize streak virus can range from 15% to 87%, depending on the time of infection relative to the state of maize growth. Although maize streak disease may be managed to a small extent through cultural and chemical control methods, breeding and provision of resistant genotypes is the cheapest control strategy.
