The Horticulture research component operated in KARl under the National Agricultural Research Project IT (NARP 11) with USAID funding from July 1, 1993 to December 31,1999. As a follow up of the NARP 11, the Agri-business Development Support Project (ADSP) under USAID funding started from January 1, 1999 with the main objective of the transfonnation of the smaller holder agriculture to commercially oriented production system involving the use of high yielding varieties, technologies etc. During the NARP IT, several high yielding new varieties of fruits, vegetables and flowers and their production technology packages were developed in horticulture, among others. So the activities under ADSP were planned on the commercialisation of the newly developed varieties and technology packages with the small holders. In addition, few-long term activities from NARP II required continuation and as such keeping in view these activities, a workplan was prepared for the year 1999.
