Abstract
Whilst fodder beet is successfully grown in many parts of the Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu, few serious attempts have been made to grow sugar beet. A series of 18 field experiments was laid down in 1959 and 1960 on the Company's estates in the Uasin Gishu, in order to ascertain whether sugar beet might become a successful and economical cash crop to add to the rather limited range of crops at present grown in the area.
