Abstract
Severe dieback of coffee (Coffee arabica ) in 1930 in the Engare 01 Motonyi basin, one of the principal coffee growing areas in the Arusha District, Tanganyika territory led the department 0f agriculture in 193 1 to commence a series of trials on an estate in that area, with the object of obtaining some indication of the causes of dieback by observation of a large number of trees subjected to different treatment.
