Abstract
The followinr; samples were analysed during tile yellr ,: Soils 11,884. plant materials 3.101. Feedstuffs 6l0~ Fertilizers and manures 206 and l-Jater 107, an increase of 167 over the previous year. The results from the maintenance and improvement of soil fertility showed that 60 kg N plus 60 kg N plus 60 kg P20S/ha or 10 tons/ha manure or 60 kg N plus 60 kg P20S + 5 tons manure/ha gave maize grain yields ranging from 3520 to 5150 kg/ha on nitosols at NAL. For bracken zone soils (humic andosols) application of 3 tons magmax/ha/year, 10 tons/ha manure. 80 kg/ha P (160 kg/ha in the third year), in factorial combination for 3 years, plus blanket application of 100 kg/ha K increased maize grain yield from 2300 to 4S00 in the second year and to 5300 kg/ha in the third year.
