Abstract
Large and medium scale farmers who mainly export roses dominate the flower export business in Kenya. But in the recent past flower crops like arabicum, tuberose, ornithogalum, gladiolus, gerbera and lilies among others have become important in the export market. These flower crops are mainly grown by the small-scale farmers. Most of the flowers grown by these farmers are sold in Europe. The European markets have extremely high quality standard requirements for products from Africa and flowers are not an exception. It is in this view that a team of three scientists visited the Hortifair show, auctions and several growers in Holland in order to appreciate the various processes carried out in the industry.
