Abstract
In a field trial, Arabica coffee cultivar Ruiru 1 [ was drip irrigated at five rates (0, 25, 50, 75 ~d 100 mm) and three intervals (21 , 28 and 42 days). Records of clean coffee, bean and liCJ.t1~r quality were taken over three years. Results showed that yield and quality were more responsive to the quantities of irrigation water than to the frequency of its application. There were no significant yield increases above the 50 mm rate. This indicated that this may be the optimal rate for the cultivar. The practical implication of these results are discussed.
