Abstract
Larvae of Heliopolis armigera (Hub.) damaged pods and seeds of pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan, grown in an experimenta1 planting established in 'the second rains of 1968 at Kabinyolo near Kampala, Uganda. The adult insect oviposited on 'the flower buds; and the young larvae fed exclusively on the buds whilst older larvae fed on the seeds of immature pods. Sprays of DDT or DDT plus dimethoate were effective in the prevention of serious losses. Fenitrothion was less effective than the above materials. The use of carbaryl produced severe phytotoxic effects.
