Abstract
The pressure of population on land and water resources in Kenya is high and increasing while arable agricultural land is scarce. The total area of Kenya's landmass is 582,600km2 83 % of which is classified as Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs). ASALs are low production rangeland zones where rainfall ranges from 300 to 900mm and have between 75-180 plant growth days (pgd) p.a.
