Abstract
The extraction of soil phosphorus has been studied along two lines: (a) Extraction of the more active or plant-available phosphate with high specific surface; and (b) Fractionation of the total of each chemical class or species of phosphate. Since 1957 Chang and Jackson's method for inorganic phosphate fractionation has been widely used, with modifications introduced by various workers, for studying the forms of native soil phosphate in relation to soil type, their uptake by plants, and the fate of applied phosphate fertilizer.
