Abstract
Only a very limited voluble of data is on record for the breeding seasons of birds in tropical countries, and least of all in tropical evergreen forest. East Africa is no exception; attempts at a definition or discussion of breeding seasons appear to have been made only by Vaughan for Zanzibar (1929) and by Belcher for the Entebbe district of Uganda (1919) and for Nyasaland (1930). Into the first two of these summaries the specialized bird fauna of evergreen forest does not enter. The only indication we have that a seasonal rhythm may exist for such birds in East Africa is contained in a tentative remark by Belcher (1930, p. 10) regarding the birds of the Nyasaland hill forests.
