Abstract
Theory of water movement in the soil, relating flux of water to gradients of water potential and water content is reviewed. The path of water in the plant during transpiration is discussed. The use of Peltier effect in the measurement of soil and leaf water potentials is reviewed and 42 gauge chronell constain thermocouples 4mm long have proved robust, reliable and sensitive.
