Abstract
One of the crops under investigation by the East African Tanning Extract Company on its estates in the Uasin Glshu as a possible alternative to cereals is soya bean (Glycine max). The crop is grown throughout the tropics and the East, mainly for the bean~, and its value in local diet depends on it5 high protein content, which IS of high biological value. The seeds are rich in digestible nutrients and have a high calcium, iron and vitamin content. Although the crop ha'i been grown fairly regularly, if haphazardly, in Kenya (Kenya Farmer. 1961) for some years, and on some scale in Tanganyika (Auckland and Spemer, 1961), (Lord, 1963),
