Abstract
These notes had their origin some years ago, in a memorandum by Dr. C. H. N. Jackson, in Kiswahili, for the instruction of fly-boys and Chapter I is, in fact, a translation from Kiswahili, somewhat expanded and brought up to date. The first edition of "The Notes for Field Studies" was produced in 1946 by W. H. Potts, C. H. N. Jackson and E. F. Whiteside, all then on the staff of the old Tsetse Research Department of Tanganyika Territory. It was compiled in response to requests by field officers and others who, stationed in remote areas where they had to apply a variety of techniques, often with only very infrequent advice from entomologists, felt the need for a short practical handbook.
