Abstract
Beans are the major component in the Rwandan diet, providing 25% of the total caloric intake, and up to 45% of their protein intake. In Rwanda, beans occupy about 25% of the harvested hecterage. Despite its importance, the yield of beans has decreased over the years primarily because of the declining soil fertility and its expansion to more marginal land.
