Abstract
With the dissolution of the University of East Africa on 30th June, 1971, the Inter-University Committee of East Africa came into operation as a statutory body to help maintain collaboration between the now autonomous Universities. This was in conformity with a recommendation made by the Working Party on Higher Education in East Africa which was submitted to the East African Authority in Arusha on 31st January, 1969. Other recommendations made by this Working Party were also accepted including proposal for frequent meetings of the Vice-Chancellors and regular subject meetings and conferences of University teachers. The adoption of these recommendations demonstrates clearly the constructive spirit in which the three national Universities were created.
