Abstract
Natural pastures on the sandy coastal soils of northern Tanzania deteriorate under grazing due to invasion by lower producing grass species, bushes and weeds. This occurs even at a stocking Taste of one beast 3 ha. The pastures ,appear to be inherently incapable of much improvement. Trials have indicated that the maximum yield is low, as response to fertilizer is poor, and that the pastures are relatively insensitive to changes in grazing management.
