Abstract
Mankind has always been preoccupied with the struggle against locusts. A fresco found in an Egyptian tomb and dating from the twelfth Dynasty (about 2,400 B.C.) shows a locust swarm and this is doubtless the first known loc4st report. Moreover, texts referring to locusts are numerous in Egyptian, Hebrew, Greek, and Chinese writings. Among others, Titus Livy and Pliny have given us accounts, often fantastic but sometimes first-class, of matters pertaining to locusts.
