Abstract
Over the years, the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARl) has continued to conduct research addressing priority agricultural constraints in diverse ecological zones across the country. Many of the technologies developed from these research efforts assist in increasing agricultural productivity thus improving food security and providing raw materials to develop a predominantly agriculture based industrial sector. During the year of reporting, KARl scientists continued to develop "farmer-specific" technologies, meant to significantly impact on food production and have considerable longer sustainability. Together with our collaborators we developed crop varieties, livestock breeds and agn cultural practices that secured larger, more reliable yields, raised income, and helped sustain natural resources. To this end, we are delighted to share with you this report demonstrating our research outputs during the year 2001.
