Abstract
After exploratory trials had been carried out at a departmental station, a total of 36 fertilizer trials on fire-cured tobacco were carried out on small private farms in Bunyoro district of Uganda, in ,two different seasons. The results showed that whilst the application of nitrogen or phosphate fertilizer alone is not generally profitable, :the application of a mixture of these fertilizers generally is profitable and is recommended. The application of potash fertilizer, together with nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers. tended to depress crop yield and value. Soil tests were not correlated with crop responses and so cannot be used to give more accurate fertilizer advice than the general recommendation.
