Abstract
The occurrence of Sclerotium rol/sii Saccois recorded in the western and southern provinces of Tanganyika. In the western Province the fungal attack accelerated the disintegration of the plants after digging, leading to detachment of the pods from the haulms in the subsequent stages of mechanical harvesting. In the southern province the disease was much more severe, and in some cases led to the breakdown of the plant before maturity. In this area control was effected by disc plough to a depth of six to eight inches
